The University of Colombo has for over 2 decades developed expertise in Language Technology especially for Sinhala. Playing a major role in Sinhala Localization and UNICODE adoption in Sri Lanka, the UCSC more recently (early 2004) won research funding to setup a Language Technology Research Lab (LTRL). Our current research also encompasses Tamil and interfaces between all 3 major languages used in Sri Lanka: Sinhala, Tamil and English.

The LTRL website is located at http://www.ucsc.cmb.ac.lk/ltrl. We have some neat downloads] for you on our website.

This space is for anyone wishing to contribute to language research or wanting to be involved while not part of the lab.

We have some project ideas for undergraduate and postgraduate projects in speech and language technology related areas...

Here's a cool LTRL Wallpaper created by Asanka for download.
