A seminar was conducted by Dr. Patrik Paulson (http://users.cecs.anu.edu.au/~patrik/ , email: patrik.haslum@anu.edu.au ) on January 13, 2017. This talk has two parts. First part, was an overview of the research school of computer science at the Australian National University. Second was on model-based (AI) diagnosis of discrete event systems (DES), with its application to alarm processing as an example. Reasoning about power systems requires a hybrid discrete/continuous model. I will describe one approach to creating such a model, by extending the DES model with numerical state constraints
